Thousands of people angry about the mass firings of federal workers and the dismantling of government agencies filled the south lawn of the Texas Capitol in one of the largest rallies yet against the Trump administration and billionaire Elon Musk.

The “Hands Off!” rally on Saturday — one of more than 1,200 held across the country — included an array of progressive organizations, LGBTQ+ advocates, elected officials, and veterans.

“Donald Trump wants you to feel powerless,” US Rep. Greg Casar (D-Austin) told the crowd. “Elon Musk wants you to feel powerless. The billionaire class wants you to feel powerless. But I don’t see many powerless people out here today in Austin, Texas.”
