With a raucous march from the Texas Capitol to Austin City Hall, hundreds of people rallied against the Trump administration on May Day.
The protest — the fifth one from local 50501 organizers since President Donald Trump took office a little over 100 days ago — was as much a denunciation of Trump’s efforts to fire federal workers and dismantle federal agencies as it was a celebration of labor organizers. May Day, also known as International Workers’ Day, is held on May 1 to celebrate the labor movement and the rights of workers.
“ We’ve already seen this new administration dismantle our institutions damage relationships with our allies, damage our economy, and most alarmingly, attack our basic rights by arresting and even attempting to deport those who speak out,” said Jack Benedict of Alphabet Workers Union.
“That’s why it’s now more important than ever that we organize and that we make our voices heard because our voice is our power. Our unity is our power,” he added.
