She will face Republican incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott in the general election on Nov. 3.
State Rep. Gina Hinojosa (D-Austin) received 60% of the vote Tuesday night in the Democratic primary for Texas Governor.
Hinojosa, who ran her campaign focusing on fighting for public education and affordability for all Texans, defeated Democrats Angela “TíaAngie” Villescaz, Bobby Cole, Zach Vance, Carlton W. Hart, Jose, Navarro Balbuena, Patricia Abrego, and Chris Bell.
She will now face incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott, who received 82% of the vote in the Republican primary, in the general election on Nov. 3.
Abbott, elected in 2015, is seeking a historic fourth term. If elected, he will become the longest-serving governor in Texas history should he complete the full four-year term.
“I’m not afraid of Greg Abbott,” Hinojosa told COURIER Texas ahead of the election. “What I have learned in almost 10 years in the Texas House, in the trenches fighting for our public schools, fighting work for working families, is that corruption is what is driving most of Greg Abbott’s agenda, and it’s keeping Texas from being affordable, and it’s keeping Texas from being responsive to the needs of Texans.”
Early voting in the general election will begin on Oct. 19. Election Day is Nov. 3.
