3 back to school drives to help Houston-area families get prepared for the year

Back to school can be a tough time for any household. As summer break winds to a close, early mornings, homework, and the tedium of packing lunches loom over parents’ heads.

But what can make it easier is not having to worry too much about purchasing back to school supplies for kids, which can be costly and tend to sell out quickly.

Here’s a list of upcoming back to school drives where families can get their hands on free supplies.

Back-To-School Fair

Aug. 9, 8 a.m.-noon

Baytown Community Center, 2407 Market St., Baytown 

This event is open to all students enrolled in Goose Creek CISD, and will offer free backpacks and supplies on a first-come, first serve basis.

Back to School Community Fair

Aug. 10, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Living Word Church, 16607 Clay Road, Houston

Living World Church will be hosting a backpack drive, and free haircuts and nail painting will be available on a first-come, first serve basis.

Back to School Health Fair

Aug. 16, 10 a.m.-noon

MultiCultural Center, 951 Tristar Drive, Webster

This health fair is focused on staying healthy throughout the school year, and will offer free nutrition workshops, fitness demonstrations, eye exams, haircuts, CPR training, and more.
