Texas has long been one of the least democratic states in the US, a place where voting rights are frequently under attack and electoral districts are manipulated for political gain. In August 2025, Texas Republicans passed a law to create new electoral maps that seek to eliminate five Democratic-held seats in the US House.
Redistricting can shape everything from which communities have the power to elect leaders who reflect their needs to how much funding neighborhoods receive for schools, health care, and infrastructure. In other words: Redistricting impacts who gets to have a real voice in the political process.
