Republican incumbent Bill Waybourn has been reelected as Tarrant County Sheriff, swatting down hopes by Democrats that the county might be turning politically blue.

He easily defeated Democratic challenger Patrick Moses, who hoped to unseat the incumbent after his run as sheriff has continued to make controversial headlines. Waybourn won 54.5% to 45.5%.
At least 65 people have died in Tarrant County jail custody since Waybourn took office, and three former Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office deputies recently filed lawsuits that drew out a “pattern of corruption and apathy” in his department.
